Going Green

About Raising Nanny

Nanny was my grandmother. For the first few years of my life Nanny raised me. In the last eight years of her life I raised her.

To "raise" a senior person means what it does when you raise a child: to "grow, care for, or promote the growth of." But hopefully it also means "to lift up, to elevate."

Senior people need raising up. They and the families raising them are a forgotten population. It is an adventure many of us undertake blind. It's not that there are no resources, it's that many of us don't know how to find them. We don't know the questions to ask or what the road ahead looks like.

This site is still being "raised." Ultimately it will be a place where we can share our adventure and use each other as resources. For right now, you can read about my adventure with Nanny and some of the things we did to raise her up.
